I think that Gatsby represents the american dream in
The Great Gatsby. From his childhood he would always hope of becoming successful, despite being the son of a farmer. He was able to achieve that goal, although not through entirely honorable means. Along the way he fell in love with Daisy. His desire to get her back is like the part of the american dream wanting to achieve something. In the end, however, he falls short. Most of the time when someone is pursuing the american dream, they don't fully achieve what they want.
